ACHIVA Addressing the Challenge of HIV and AIDS

The Moitsheki Centre continued

The Youth Group has been very active in the formation of the centre, and remains very impressive in their dedication to helping those with HIV, those struggling to bring up orphans, prisoners, young people with addiction, pregnant teenagers, and a local shelter for streetchildren, where they have befriended children and include them in special events at the church.

The previous Saturday, as part of the new initiative, All Saints’ had seen a “full house” when, with the sponsorship of the “Victoria Clinic”, it opened its doors to everyone as a Wellness Clinic, and offered free testing for Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, TB and HIV. It is remarkable that this was so popular, and marks a way forward in fighting the stigma against testing for HIV.

A business plan has been produced to guide the integration of all the aspects of the HIV & AIDS programmes and skills initiatives with this motto “Together we can make a difference”. The following is an extract from the MOITSHEKI HIV & AIDS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE launch document:

The VISION of the initiative is:
GOD’S FAMILY SPREADING HOPE THROUGH KNOWLEDGE AND DEVELOPMENT

The MISSION is:
THE CHURCH: TOGETHER FIGHTING THE SPREAD OF HIV/AIDS, POVERTY AND DEPENDENCY THROUGH KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

The OBJECTIVES are:
The aims of the initiative are to build togetherness and work towards the eradication of poverty, fight the spread of HIV/AIDS (for the Infected and Affected) and develop skills. Therefore the objectives were conceptualised as:To encourage all individuals to volunteer and participate in all church activitiesTo foster care and supportTo design programmes for all individualsTo design programmes which will assist in fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemicTo assist in the fight against povertyTo open doors of learningTo inculcate the culture of reading through library servicesTo gather vital information which will assist in skills development, education and training i.e. bursaries, internships, learnerships and skills development initiatives. To encourage young people (Youth) to reach their full potential and therefore be self-reliant

The “Moitsheki Centre” is an exciting new venture aiming to make a difference to the health and welfare of its community and to provide a safer environment for its children to grow up in.
